Seddon Group Wins Quality In Construction Award

The Seddon Group has been named in the prestigious Quality in Construction awards. Seddon was awarded Highly Commended in the Best Apprentice Scheme category.

The awards are a regular part of the construction calendar and highly sought after, and run in conjunction with Construction Week.

Seddon was recognised for their Apprenticeship Scheme, which has seen 3000 young people qualify since it started 60 years ago. Each year the company receives hundreds of applications from young people eager to join, with 700 applications in 2007, from which 58 were chosen to join.

All will receive technical and vocational training and are encouraged to develop essential job skills that cannot be taught in the class room.

Seddon invests 4 million each year into training and this year has 226 apprentices overall on its books, all working towards NVQ Level 3 rather than the industry norm of Level 2. This commitment to training for the industry particularly impressed the judges, who also commented favourably on the fact that Seddon takes time to understand youngsters who may have failed the basic construction assessment test, and find a role for them regardless of this.

Jonathan Seddon, Seddon Group Director comments: Construction is starting to suffer from a real skills shortage. We are addressing this by providing training opportunities for young people combined with a structured support network. We are thrilled that this scheme has been recognized on such a national and highly regarded forum.
